Writing about Zineb Sedira and her art, the Algerian art historian, critic and curator Nadira Laggoune-Aklouche speaks about our age as a time when entire nations are once more on the move, migrating and mixing. Identities are moulded by migration. One's attitudes towards life and the culture in which one lives, one's own past and also in many cases the future, all these must be reappraised. Under the sky and over the sea is Zineb Sedira's first solo show in Scandinavia. Opened in the Pori Art Museum in October 2009, it is a visually and technically meticulous, thematically complex whole that explores the potentials of humanity and culture, as well as those of image, sound and space. Zineb Sedira's exhibition and catalogue is a cooperation between three Nordic museums. The exhibition continues from Pori to Kunsthallen Nikolaj in Copenhagen, Denmark, and from Denmark to Bildmuseet, Umeåuniversitet in Umeå, Sweden.
