Soini, Facilitating Change - Towards resident-oriented housing modernisation with collaborative design

This dissertation present an in-depth narrative about the systemic change of Finnish repair construction between 2004 and 2011. During the years, the field transformed from technical orientation towards resident-oriented housing modernisation. Repair construction used to borrow its criteria from new building construction, but now the field started to build its own culture and shifted its focus to residents, service business, and long-term maintenance. While repair construction professionals initiated and implemented the change, collaborative design facilitated consistent transformation through empathic exploration and collective envisioning. The research provides empirical view on the contribution of collaborative design in systemic change - which brings value for people, organisations and society alike.
